In a major move to boost the economy, the Prime Minister announced the formation of a high-powered task force for next-generation reforms. This task force is mandated to simplify the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework, making it more business-friendly and efficient.
Building on this, PM Modi delivered what he termed a ‘double Diwali’ gift for the nation. He declared significant GST tax cuts, set to be implemented under the revamped framework starting this October. This move is expected to lower prices on various goods and services, providing relief to households and stimulating consumer demand.
Tech Self-Reliance: From Chips to AI
A cornerstone of the Prime Minister’s vision for an Atmanirbhar Bharat is technological self-sufficiency. He made a landmark announcement that the first batch of Made-in-India semiconductor chips will hit the market by the end of 2025. This achievement is a critical step in reducing dependency on global supply chains and establishing India as a key player in the electronics manufacturing sector.
Furthermore, the government will spearhead the creation of a robust AI ecosystem and launch a High-Power Demography Mission to leverage India’s demographic dividend through skill development and technological integration.
Fortifying National Defence
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to national security, PM Modi unveiled Mission Sudarshan Chakra, a state-of-the-art missile-defence initiative. This ambitious project is designed to create a multi-layered shield to neutralise incoming threats and significantly enhance India’s infiltration response and offensive capabilities.
The Prime Minister also paid a heartfelt tribute to the armed forces, specifically honouring their valour during Operation Sindoor. He highlighted the immense progress in indigenous defence manufacturing, celebrating the nation’s growing ‘Defence Pride’ as a testament to the success of Make-in-India.
Soaring Ambitions: Space, Jets, and Beyond
Looking towards the future, the announcements showcased India’s soaring ambitions. PM Modi revealed concrete plans for developing indigenous fighter-jet engines, a critical component for strategic autonomy. He also reiterated the nation’s commitment to space exploration with firm timelines for the Gaganyaan mission and the establishment of India’s own space station, the ‘Bharatiya Antariksh Station’.
